Human liberty implies the government of one's own conduct, and one should account for its use and assume the consequences. This is precisely what constitutes the ownership we have over this conduct and over the things which this conduct affects, in other words, possessions or attributes that are under our control. And we are bound to be accountable for this liberty and its consequences because we are drawn towards the perfection correspondent to our nature; that is to say, the political common good. This is the reason why not every use of our liberty and possessions is necessarily good. With misuse we can cause harm and thus be obliged to make amends. The purpose of this paper is to explain the extent and contents of this responsibility.La libertad humana implica gobierno de la propia conducta, por lo que corresponde que su titular dé cuenta de su uso y asuma sus consecuencias. En esto consiste precisamente la propiedad que tenemos sobre esa conducta y de aquello sobre lo cual ella se ejerce, esto es, los bienes o atributos que están bajo nuestro dominio. Y hemos de dar cuenta y asumir las consecuencias, porque nuestro norte está constituido por el bien o perfección que corresponde a nuestra naturaleza, es decir, el bien común político;por esta razón no todo uso de la libertad y de los bienes de los cuales somos dueños es necesariamente bueno. Con el mal uso podemos dañar y así nuestro deber será la correspondiente reparación. Explicar la extensión de esta responsabilidad y de su contenido constituye la finalidad de este trabajo.
