Typology and evolution of the industrial heritage of watermills in south-center Chile

| dc.description | Chilean watermills can be found between the O`Higgins Region and the Chiloe Archipelago. After many years of intensive production, these unique tokens of industrial heritage deserve special consideration. In addition to being used for milling grains, with time they have gained deep-rooted cultural and socioeconomic significance for the towns that house them, as they share certain local meanings, values, symbols, and traditions. However, many of them are damaged and abandoned, impeding adequate conservation and concealing their tangible and intangible values. At present, Chilean watermills have a new opportunity to become objects of admiration and outreach through heritage tourism, which explicitly focuses on emphasizing heritage that has not been legally recognized. | en-US |
| dc.description | Los molinos hidráulicos chilenos se encuentran ubicados entre las regiones de O`Higgins y el Archipiélago de Chiloé. Tras muchos años de intensiva producción, vale la pena que estos singulares ejemplos de patrimonio industrial sean considerados de manera especial. Además de estar ocupados en la trituración del cereal, con el transcurrir del tiempo se han consolidado para cada pueblo en que se localizan como un recurso de profundo contenido cultural y socioeconómico, al compartir ciertos significados, valores, símbolos y tradiciones de la cultura local. No obstante, muchos de ellos se hallan en condiciones de deterioro y desamparo, situación que confabula contra su apropiada conservación, ignorando de esta manera sus valores tangibles e intangibles. En la actualidad, los molinos hidráulicos chilenos tienen una nueva oportunidad de ser objeto de admiración y divulgación a través del Turismo Patrimonial, que se ha abocado explícitamente a poner en valor aquellos patrimonios no reconocidos legalmente. | es-ES |
