State of knowledge and conservation of amphibians of Chile: a synthesis of the last 10 years of research

dc.descriptionTen years have elapsed since the last general synthesis of the state of knowledge of amphibians of Chile was published. During this period there have been numerous contributions to the knowledge of these organisms and implemented actions aimed at their conservation. The aim of this paper is to describe the progress in different scientific areas and in the field of conservation of amphibians of Chile during the last ten years to get an updated vision of their state of knowledge and conservation and identify some areas that require greater research effort. The update was based on 155 works published between 2006 and 2015, including scientific articles ISI and no ISI, books, book chapters and field guides. These publications were classified by year and by scientific area to examine the temporal trend in the number of publications and identify in which areas has concentrated the scientific work. The areas where most research was conducted during the last decade were conservation, geographical distribution and biogeography, ethology, taxonomy, and genetics and phylogeography. Among these, conservation has become a discipline of scientific interest and has benefited from concrete actions such as ex situ and in situ breeding programs, the proposal of a National Plan of Amphibian Conservation and the assessment of conservation status made through the "Reglamento de Clasificación de Especies". Finally, some issues that would require more attention from researchers in the areas of taxonomy, systematics, biogeography, biology and conservation are suggested.en-US
dc.descriptionHan transcurrido diez años desde que se publicó la última síntesis general del estado de conocimiento de los anfibios de Chile. Durante este periodo se han realizado numerosos aportes al conocimiento de estos organismos e implementado acciones enfocadas a su conservación. El objetivo de este trabajo es describir los avances realizados en distintas áreas científicas y en el campo de la conservación de los anfibios de Chile durante los últimos diez años, para obtener una visión actualizada de su estado de conocimiento y conservación e identificar algunas áreas que requerirían un mayor esfuerzo de investigación. La actualización se basó en 155 trabajos publicados entre 2006 y 2015, que incluyen artículos científicos de revistas ISI y no ISI, libros, capítulos de libros y guías de campo. Estas publicaciones fueron clasificadas por año y por área científica para examinar la tendencia temporal en el número de publicaciones e identificar en qué áreas se ha concentrado la labor científica. Las áreas en que se realizó la mayoría de las investigaciones durante esta última década fueron conservación, distribución geográfica y biogeografía, etología, taxonomía, y genética y filogeografía. Entre estas, la conservación se ha consolidado como una disciplina de interés científico y se ha beneficiado de acciones concretas como programas de crianza ex situ e in situ, la propuesta de un Plan Nacional de Conservación de Anfibios, y la evaluación de los estados de conservación realizada a través del Reglamento de Clasificación de Especies. Finalmente, se sugieren algunas temáticas que requerirían mayor atención por parte los investigadores en las áreas de la taxonomía, sistemática, biogeografía, biología y conservación.es-ES
