| dc.description | Introduction: Orthodontists constantly seek to reduce the duration of their provided treatments and the patient's time in the office. For this reason, different bracket systems are currently used in orthodontics; an example is self-ligating brackets (SLB) which are believed to offer advantages over conventional brackets (CB). Objective: To evaluate and compare the clinical periodontal effect of CB and SLB through a systematic review and a meta-analysis. Material and Method: A search of the literature was carried out until December 2017, in the biomedical databases: PubMed, Embase, SciELO, ScienceDirect, SIGLE, LILACS, BBO, Google Scholar and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. The selection criteria of the studies were defined as such: randomized clinical trials, up to 5 years old and that report the clinical effects (probing depth, bleeding on probing, gingival index and plaque index) from the use of CB and SLB. The risk of study bias was analyzed through the Cochrane Handbook of systematic reviews of interventions. Results: The search strategy resulted in 12 articles, eight of which reported no difference in the reduction in probing depth, bleeding on probing, gingival index and plaque index (p>0.05) between CB and SLB. Conclusion: The literature reviewed suggests that there are no differences in the periodontal clinical effect among patients who received orthodontic treatment with CB or SLB. | en-US |
| dc.description | Introducción: los ortodoncistas buscan constantemente reducir la duración de los tratamientos proporcionados y el tiempo del paciente en el consultorio. Por esta razón, actualmente se utilizan diferentes sistemas de brackets en ortodoncia; Un ejemplo son los brackets de autoligado (SLB) que se cree que ofrecen ventajas sobre los brackets convencionales (CB). Objetivo: evaluar y comparar el efecto periodontal clínico de CB y SLB a través de una revisión sistemática y un metanálisis. Material y método: se llevó a cabo una búsqueda de la literatura hasta diciembre de 2017, en las bases de datos biomédicas: PubMed, Embase, SciELO, ScienceDirect, SIGLE, LILACS, BBO, Google Scholar y el Registro Cochrane Central de Ensayos Controlados. Los criterios de selección de los estudios se definieron como tales: ensayos clínicos aleatorios, de hasta 5 años de edad, que informan los efectos clínicos (profundidad de sondaje, sangrado al sondaje, índice gingival e índice de placa) del uso de CB y SLB. El riesgo de sesgo del estudio se analizó a través del Manual Cochrane de revisiones sistemáticas de intervenciones. Resultados: La estrategia de búsqueda dio como resultado 12 artículos, ocho de los cuales no informaron diferencias en la reducción de la profundidad de sondeo, sangrado al sondaje, índice gingival e índice de placa (p> 0.05) entre CB y SLB. Conclusión: La literatura revisada sugiere que no hay diferencias en el efecto clínico periodontal entre los pacientes que recibieron tratamiento de ortodoncia con CB o SLB. | es-ES |
