dc.descriptionIn this article I examine the role of the Pehuenches in a regional economy characterized by strong inter-ethnic and trans-Andean developments. Within an increasingly violent frontier context on both sides of the Andes Mountains, and new market dynamics, the Pehuenches of Cuyo and Neuquén were key actors in the ranching industry, supplying cattle to the Chilean and Mapuche markets. The lonkos administered access to multiethnic actors to its land, guaranteeing resources, protection and security. This phenomenon also helped the Pehuenches maintain their autonomy. By analyzing diverse state sources, indigenous correspondence and the literature on the subject, this article examines the multiple economic logics of the people involved in the productive and demographic development of the region under study. Furthermore, it contributes to the dialogue between Argentine and Chilean literatures.en-US
dc.descriptionEn este artículo examino el papel de los pehuenches en una economía regional caracterizada por históricos vínculos interétnicos y transcodilleranos. En un contexto de creciente violencia fronteriza en ambos lados de la cordillera y de nuevas dinámicas mercantiles, los pehuenches de Cuyo y Neuquén fueron actores claves en el desarrollo de la ganadería que abastecía los mercados chilenos y mapuches. Los loncos administraron el acceso de actores multiétnicos a sus tierras; garantizando recursos, protección y seguridad, y logrando conservar su propia autonomía. A través del análisis de diversas fuentes estatales, correspondencia indígena y la literatura correspondiente, profundizo en las diversas lógicas económicas presentes en el desarrollo productivo y poblacional de la región bajo estudio. Además, busco mayor diálogo entre la literatura producida en Argentina y Chilees-ES
