dc.descriptionThe industrialisation of Magallanes was a particular economic phenomenon that typified the rise and development of the southern Chilean territory during the period between the last decade of the nineteenth century and the first two decades of the twentieth century. This article argues that the context of geographical isolation and remoteness served as a stimulus to the colonists to satisfy the numerous requirements for services and supply of goods, which imports from Europe did not cover in the stipulated time. Through a study of the economic development of the industries, it can be stated that, first and foremost, this work depended on sheep breeding. It is concluded that this was at the same time evidence of the creativity, intelligence and energy of European immigrants, which contributed to Magellanic autonomy and self-sufficiency during a decisive period of its history.en-US
dc.descriptionLa industrialización de Magallanes fue un fenómeno económico particular que tipificó el auge y desarrollo del territorio chileno del sur durante el periodo entre la última década del siglo XIX y las primeras dos décadas del siglo XX. En este artículo se sostiene que el contexto de aislamiento geográfico y alejamiento sirvió como estímulo a los colonos para satisfacer los numerosos requerimientos de servicios y suministro de bienes, que la importación desde Europa no cubría en el tiempo estipulado. A través de un estudio de la evolución económica de las industrias, se puede afirmar que, ante todo, este trabajo dependió de la crianza ovejera. Se concluye que esto fue al mismo tiempo una evidencia de la creatividad, inteligencia y energía de los inmigrantes europeos, que contribuyó a la autonomía y autosuficiencia magallánica durante un lapso decisivo de su historia.es-ES
