This article analyses the installation in Chile of a neoliberal model during the military regime headed by General Augusto Pinochet, between 1973 and 1979. Within that context, it offers a reinterpretation of the allegedly foundational character of that government, its also supposedly early adherence to the neoliberal matrix, and its break with the Keynesian capitalism which had prevailed since the 1930’s. The analysis is focused on the evolution of military about the links between the State and development, and on the debate between neoliberalism and statism that was carried out within the armed forces. It is concluded that this ideological debate was not linear and that there was some resistance within this group to the implementation of the new model.  Este artículo analiza la instalación en Chile de un modelo neoliberal durante el régimen militar encabezado por el general Augusto Pinochet, entre 1973 y 1979. En ese contexto, ofrece una interpretación del pretendido carácter fundacional del gobierno, de la supuesta adherencia temprana a la matriz neoliberal y su quiebre con el capitalismo keynesiano, que había prevalecido desde la década de 1930.  El análisis se enfoca en la evolución de la posición castrense con respecto a los vínculos entre el Estado y el desarrollo, y en el debate entre neoliberalismo y estatismo que se llevó a cabo dentro de las Fuerzas Armadas. Se concluye que este debate ideológico no fue lineal y que presentó cierta resistencia al interior de este grupo respecto de la implantación del modelo nuevo.
