Women played a leading role in Early Christianity. Amont the different ways of this protagonism, the diaconate stands out above all, for its transversal nature and for its duration, as it appears already in tis beginnings, it will reach its greatest splendor in the fourth and fifth centuries, it would gradually disappear from the VIthe  century on, and will be reduced to a marginal phenomenon from 12th century. In this article, after a brief introduction to these other forms of protagonism, the main references to this ministry in the Eastern part of the Church will be studied up to the fith century, in order to dicover its development, functions, and characteristics.Las mujeres tuvieron un gran protagonismo en el cristianismo primitivo. Entre las diferentes maneras de este protagonismo destaca sobre todo el diaconado, por su carácter transversal y por su duración, pues aparece ya en sus inicios, alcanzará su mayor esplendor en los siglos IV y V, irá desapareciendo progresivamente a partir del siglo VI y quedará reducido a un fenómeno marginal a partir del s. XII. En este artículo, después de una breve introducción a esas otras formas de protagonismo, se estudiarán las principales referencias a este ministerio en la parte oriental de la Iglesia hasta el siglo V, para así descubrir su desarrollo, funciones y características.
