This article addresses the historical process of the main milestones, experiences and decentralizing approaches in Chile between 1810 and 1989. Based on a summary study of the literature on decentralization, territorial planning, local administrations, and recent historiographic perspectives, it seeks to provide a perspective on the approaches with which decentralization in Chile was addressed. In the first instance, a brief conceptual framework is presented including the historical periods in which the document will be divided. Subsequently, will be reviewed the different State projects between 1810 and 1828 then the institutional configuration resulting from the Constitutions of 1833 and 1925, to later analyze the role of the new public institutions such as CORFO and ODEPLAN. Finally, the conclusion will include the main reforms of the dictatorship.El presente artículo aborda el proceso histórico entre 1810 a 1989, respecto a los principales hitos, experiencias y enfoques descentralizadores en Chile. A partir de un estudio recapitulativo de la literatura referente a descentralización, ordenamiento territorial, administraciones locales y perspectivas historiográficas recientes, se busca explicar y entregar una visión en torno a los enfoques con los cuales se abordó la descentralización en Chile. En primera instancia, se presenta un breve marco conceptual y períodos en los cuales se dividirá el documento. Posteriormente, se abordarán los diferentes proyectos de Estado entre 1810 a 1828, la configuración resultante de la Constitución de 1833 y 1925, las propuestas de CORFO y ODEPLAN, para finalizar con las principales reformas de la dictadura.
