The regionalization started in 1974 has had some changes throughout its history. The most recent was given by Law No. 21.033, which created the XVI Ñuble Region. This work analyzes the experience between September 2017 and September 2018, regarding the factors that triggered the decision to create this new region, the expectations of the main actors and a series of strategic and operational aspects of relevance. This seeks to systematize learning regarding the reasons given for the creation of new regions and the possible ways to address them. This also considered the implications of the reform promulgated in 2018 to Law No. 18,175.La regionalización iniciada el año 1974 ha tenido algunos cambios a lo largo de su historia. El más reciente se da con la ley N°21.033, la cual creó la XVI región de Ñuble. A través de este trabajo se analiza la experiencia entre septiembre de 2017 y septiembre del año 2018, respecto a los factores que detonaron la decisión de crear esta nueva región, las expectativas de los principales actores y una serie de aspectos estratégicos y operativos de relevancia. Con ello se busca sistematizar aprendizajes respecto a los motivos esgrimidos para la creación de nuevas regiones y las posibles formas para abordarlos. Esto también considerando las implicancias de la reforma promulgada el año 2018 a la ley N°18.175.
