| dc.description | The literature indicates that the family's beliefs of illness influence in patient’s beliefs, determine the reaction and attitude that family members have towards him, and influences the coping strategies he uses, as well as his evolution . The aim of this study was to describe the beliefs that both patients with ED and their relatives have of the disease, and to analyze how the degree of congruence between them is related to the psychosocial adjustment and psychological distress of these patients. 98 women diagnosed with an eating disorder and 60 family members participated. The Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire (IPQ-R), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Psychosocial Adaptation Questionnaire (PAIS) were administered. When patients and relatives considered that the illness was distressing, chronic and with a high identity, these patients showed greater emotional distress than patients who did not agree with their relatives in these dimensions. When patients and family members considered that the disease had strong negative consequences, these patients reported lower levels of educational adjustment and more sexual problems. However, when patients and family members had positive beliefs about disease control, these patients showed lower levels of depression and anxiety than patients who did not agree with their family members. | en-US |
| dc.description | La literatura señala que las creencias de enfermedad que tengan los familiares influyen en las creencias que tiene el propio paciente, determinan la reacción y actitud que tengan los familiares hacia él, e influye en las estrategias de afrontamiento que éste utilice, así como en su evolución. El objetivo de este estudio fue describir las creencias que de la enfermedad tienen tanto las pacientes con TCA como sus familiares, y analizar cómo el grado de congruencia entre éstas se relaciona con el ajuste psicosocial y malestar psicológico de estas pacientes. Participaron 98 mujeres diagnosticadas de un TCA y 60 familiares. Se administró el Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire (IPQ-R), la Escala de Ansiedad y Depresión Hospitalaria (HADS) y el Cuestionario de Adaptación Psicosocial (PAIS). Las pacientes que consideraban al igual que sus familiares que su enfermedad era angustiante, crónica y con una alta identidad, mostraron mayor malestar emocional que las pacientes que no estaban de acuerdo con sus familiares en estas dimensiones. Cuando paciente y familiar consideraban que la enfermedad tenía fuertes consecuencias negativas, estas pacientes informaron niveles más bajos de ajuste educativo y más problemas sexuales. Sin embargo, cuando pacientes y familiares tenían creencias positivas de control de la enfermedad, estas pacientes mostraron niveles más bajos de depresión y ansiedad que las pacientes que no estaban de acuerdo con sus familiares. | es-ES |
