When we think of a sustainable construction project, the first thing that comes to our mind are the concepts of efficiency and energy optimization, efficient water use and quality of the interior environment. Little by little, we are internalizing the fact that each intervention—whether it is a building, a house, fitting for use, or an urbanization—must be respectful of the natural environment and built thinking about its entire life cycle. The various strategies, assessments and decisions have to be discussed and analyzed from the onset so that the project can meet the objectives as well as the deadlines and costs set forth without sacrificing quality. Basically, any project that seeks to be aligned with the three pillars of sustainability (environmental, economic, and social) must pursue the efficient use of energy and water resources, and raw materials, while ensuring the welfare and health of theworkers and users, maintaining the profitability of the project.Cuando pensamos en un proyecto de construcción sustentable, lo primero que viene a nuestra mente son los conceptos de eficiencia y optimización energética, uso eficiente de agua y calidad del ambiente interior. Poco a poco, estamos interiorizando el hecho de que cada intervención —ya sea en la forma de un edificio, una vivienda, una habilitación o una urbanización— debe ser respetuosa con el medio ambiente natural y construida pensando en todo su ciclo de vida. Las distintas estrategias, evaluaciones y decisiones han de ser discutidas y analizadas desde el principio, de forma de lograr que este proyecto alcance los objetivos planteados sin dejar de cumplir los plazos y costos estipulados ni sacrificar la calidad deseada. Básicamente, todo proyecto que busque estar alineado con los tres pilares de la sustentabilidad (ambiental, económico y social), deberá perseguir como meta el usar eficientemente los recursos energéticos, hídricos y materias primas, en tanto se vela por el bienestar y salud de ocupantes y trabajadores, y se mantiene la rentabilidad del mismo.
