Why there is no “Design heritage” but there is “designing heritage.”

dc.descriptionUNESCO recognises and safeguards intangible cultural heritage (ICH) through an agreement that is ratified by many countries. However, the design domain does not appear to be included in the convention. There is no “design heritage” discipline, perhaps because the design domain aims to provide solutions and improve situations, whereas heritage by definition is trying to preserve situations. Thus these two disciplines have conflicting natures. At the same time, as technology improves the action of “designing heritage” becomes more prevalent. Design tools, methods and techniques can merge with heritage and bring back in life memories. en-US
dc.descriptionLa UNESCO reconoce y protege el patrimonio cultural inmaterial (PCI) a través de un acuerdo que es ratificado por muchos países. Sin embargo, el dominio del diseño no parece estar incluido en la convención. No existe una disciplina de “patrimonio de diseño”, tal vez porque el dominio de diseño tiene como objetivo proporcionar soluciones y mejorar las situaciones, mientras que el patrimonio por definición está tratando de preservar las situaciones. Así, estas dos disciplinas tienen naturalezas conflictivas. Al mismo tiempo, a medida que la tecnología mejora la acción del “diseño del patrimonio”, esta se vuelve más frecuente. Las herramientas, los métodos y las técnicas de diseño pueden fusionarse con el patrimonio y traer de vuelta recuerdos de la vida. es-ES
