Chile was under the rule of patronage from its independence (1810) until the Constitution of 1925, which established the separation between the State and the Catholic Church, desestablishing it and supressing its public funding. This was approved by an agreement reached on good terms. This work shows that the relationship between Church and State on such period were, generally, pacific and always ended in friendly terms, even during the time of the so called laic legislation. Thus, that laicity that stems from this process was agreed upon, and so the Chilean laicism is a friendly laicism. Therefore, the classic categories of good and bad laicities (narrow and wide), as well as the notion laicismas always evil, do not apply properly to the Chilean process.Chile estuvo bajo régimen de Patronato desde su independencia (1810) hasta la Constitución de 1925, que separó la Iglesia Católica del Estado, eliminó el que tal Iglesia fuera Iglesia oficial y terminó con el presupuesto del culto, mediante un acuerdo amigable. El presente trabajo muestra que las relaciones Iglesia-Estado durante tal período fueron, en general, pacíficas y terminaron siempre en consensos, incluso en el tiempo de las llamadas leyes laicas. De esta manera, la laicidad que emana de este proceso es una laicidad compartida y el laicismo chileno es un laicismo dialogante. Por ello, las categorías clásicas de laicidades buenas y malas (cerradas o abiertas) y laicismos siempre perversos no permiten abordar el proceso chileno con propiedad.
