Spain and the countries of southern Europe have been severely affected by a crisis that has even threatened the pervivence of the euro and has shown the weaknesses arising from imperfect legal design of the Economic and Monetary Union. Many reforms have been undertaken to achieve a higher level of economic integration in order to overcome the economic crisis. This paper aims to assess the current situation of the Economic and Monetary Union after these reforms, by analyzing regulatory developments in the areas of financial assistance and economic coordination and discipline. After that, the article is meant to answer whether these reforms have been accompanied by deficiencies that could affect the future of the Economic and Monetary Union, by noticing the imperfections and challenges that the current Economic and Monetary Union is facing and that must be overcome to ensure the success of theEuropean integration project.España y los países del sur de Europa se han visto fuertemente afectados por una crisis que incluso ha amenazado a la supervivencia del Euro y que ha mostrado las insuficiencias derivadas del imperfecto diseño jurídico de la Unión Económica y Monetaria. Muchas han sido las reformas emprendidas dirigidas a lograr un mayor nivel de integración económica para poder hacer frente a la crisis. Este trabajo pretende evaluar la situación actual de la Unión Económica y Monetaria tras estas reformas, analizando el desarrollo normativo producido en los ámbitos de la asistencia financiera y de la coordinación y disciplina económica. Posteriormente, se analizará si estas reformas han venido acompañadas de deficiencias que puedan afectar al futuro de la Unión Económica y Monetaria, advirtiendo las imperfecciones y desafíos a los que se enfrenta la actual Unión Económica y Monetaria y que deben superarse para garantizar el éxito del proyecto de integración europeo.
