| dc.description | Based on the comparison between the Spanish and Chilean authoritarian experiences of the 20th century, this article investigates the conditions of possibility that allowed the dictatorships of Franco and Pinochet to lay the foundations for a re-founding of the social, political, and economic structures that previously ruled their countries, following a pattern —debated in the social sciences— of modernization without democracy. It is concluded that such historical possibility, without being inevitable or necessarily based on a prior project, lies, on the one hand, in the restructuring of the conditions of social and political reproduction against which the forces that originate such authoritarian regimes initially react, and not in the political defeat of the resistance that is organized against them; as well as, on the other hand, in the socially exclusive nature of the exit political pacts with which both countries move towards democracy.Keywords: modernization, Spain, Chile. | en-US |
| dc.description | A partir de la comparación entre las experiencias autoritarias española y chilena del siglo XX, este artículo indaga en las condiciones de posibilidad que permitieron a las dictaduras de Franco y Pinochet sentar las bases para una refundación de las estructuras sociales, políticas y económicas que regían previamente sus países, siguiendo un patrón -objeto de debate en las ciencias sociales- de modernización sin democracia. Se concluye que tal posibilidad histórica, sin ser inevitable ni basarse necesariamente en un proyecto previo, radica, por un lado, en la desestructuración de las condiciones de reproducción social y política contra las que inicialmente reaccionan las fuerzas que originan tales regímenes autoritarios, y no en la derrota política de las resistencias que se organizan contra ellos; así como, por otro, en el carácter socialmente excluyente de los pactos políticos de salida con que en ambos países se transita hacia la democracia.Palabras clave: modernización, autoritarismo, democracia, España, Chile. | es-ES |
