| dc.description | This article aims to make a short history of digital audio taking into consideration a set of technological inventions, scientific research and cultural appropriations. For this, the work will be divided into two sections: the first one will deal with the beginnings of music recording and reproduction technologies, so it will be necessary to go back to the last quarter of the nineteenth century, the period of birth of analog sound machines that, even with their successive techno-cultural mutations –from the phonograph to the record player–, they will domi- nate the music industry scene well into the second half of the twentieth century. Second, the emergence and development of digital sound machines will be addressed, for which we will focus precisely on the process of digitizing analog signals, as well as in the context of the emergence of their favorite children: the compact disc and the MP3. | en-US |
| dc.description | El presente artículo se propone hacer una pequeña historia del audio digital, tomando en consideración un conjunto compuesto de invenciones tecnoló- gicas, investigaciones científicas y apropiaciones culturales. Para ello se dividirá el trabajo en dos apartados: en el primero de ellos se tratarán los comienzos de las tecnologías de grabación y reproducción musical, por lo que habrá que remontarse al último cuarto del siglo XIX, período de nacimiento de las máquinas sonoras analógicas que, aún con sus sucesivas mutaciones tecno-culturales –del fonógrafo al tocadiscos–, dominarán la escena de la industria musical hasta bien entrada la segunda mitad del siglo XX. En segundo término, se abordará la aparición y desarrollo de las máquinas sonoras digitales, para lo cual se focalizará, precisamente, en el proceso de digitalización de las señales analógicas, así como en el contexto de surgimiento de sus hijos predilectos: el disco compacto y el MP3. | es-ES |
