This article pretends to analyze the channels towards Violeta Parra appropriates of the border culture from the Biobío region. Methodologically, this article was built mixing ethnographical research on the area of San Carlos with the known bibliography about this border area and the “decimas” published by Violeta Parra and, on a minor quantity, by his brother Eduardo. With respect to the development of this article, it tries to give a setting of the border culture on the transition from the XIX to the XX Century, and to make a theoretical reflection introducing a state of question of the matter as well. Then, to analyze the main points of connection between that frontier and Violeta: family, the approaching and interaction with the rural society from her working experience, essentially urban, which develops until she integrates the migratory flow towards Santiago.En este artículo se pretende analizar los canales a través de los cuales Violeta Parra se apropia de la cultura fronteriza de la región del Biobío. Metodológicamente este artículo fue construido mezclando trabajo etnográfico en el área de San Carlos con la bibliografía conocida respecto del área de la frontera y con las décimas publicadas por Violeta Parra y en menor medida por su hermano Eduardo. En lo que al desarrollo respecta, además de hacerse una reflexión teórica y presentarse un estado de la cuestión de la materia, se intenta dar un marco de la cultura fronteriza en la transición del siglo XIX al XX, para luego analizar los principales puntos de conexión entre esta y Violeta: la familia, su aproximación y su interacción con la sociedad rural y su experiencia laboral, esencialmente urbana, que transcurre hasta que se integra a la corriente migratoria que iba en dirección a Santiago.
