dc.description	This article starts with some proposals of the linguistic and cultural turn on history and it makes an analysis of the historiographic construction of Spanish monarchic legitimacy, focusing on the figure of Don Pelayo, considered by Jimenez de Rada’s Chronicle (XIII Century) as “the first monarch of the Restored Spain”. This speech was updated between the XVI and XVII Century as a means to instill a set of values and providing common frames of reference to all subjects belonging to the Spanish Catholic monarchy, in a period when it was necessary to enhance its prestige against other European monarchies.	en-US
dc.description	Este artículo parte con algunos planteamientos del giro lingüístico y cultural en historia y realiza un análisis de la construcción historiográfica de la legitimidad monárquica española, enfocándose en la figura de Don Pelayo, considerado por la crónica de Jiménez de Rada (s. XIII) como “el primer monarca de la España restaurada”. Este discurso fue reactualizado entre los siglos XVI y XVII como instrumento de legitimación, arma de propaganda política y medio para inculcar una serie de valores y ofrecer marcos de referencia comunes a todos los súbditos de la Monarquía católica hispana, en un momento en que se veía necesario reforzar su prestigio de manera sólida y duradera frente a otras monarquías europeas.	es-ES
