dc.descriptionFor some decades, there has been agreement on the need to deepen studies on the cultural and scientific relations between the old European metropolises and their former colonies. For this reason, it was necessary to carry out a first review of how Spanish academic geography has approached the Latin American question. Which authors have tried to study it, from which theories and works focused on territorial analysis. In this approach, two ways in which Spanish geographers have approached Latin America are discovered: the first, through general discourses ranging from paternalism, the justification of the colonial period or the denunciation of the plundering of the riches of the territories; the second, from a direct experience in some Latin American countries and universities. The resulting interpretations have been highly conditioned by the different stages that the recent history of Spain has gone through. In recent times, they respond to an economic interest in projecting a friendly image of the former colonial power, home to important multinational companies interested in the transatlantic business. The need to recover this link between the Hispanic or the Ibero-American constitutes the final argument of a work framed in history and the theory of Geography.en-US
dc.descriptionDesde hace algunos decenios, se ha coincidido en la necesidad de profundizar los estudios sobre las relaciones culturales y científicas entre las viejas metrópolis europeas y sus antiguas colonias. Por este motivo, se imponía realizar una primera revisión de cómo la Geografía académica española ha abordado la cuestión latinoamericana. Qué autores la han tratado de estudiar, a partir de qué teorías y obras centradas en el análisis territorial. En esta aproximación se descubren dos vías por las cuales los geógrafos españoles se han acercado a América Latina: la primera mediante discursos generales que oscilan entre el paternalismo, la justificación del período colonial o la denuncia de la expoliación de las riquezas de los territorios; la segunda desde una vivencia directa en algunos países y universidades latinoamericanas. Las interpretaciones resultantes, han estado muy condicionadas por las distintas etapas que ha atravesado la historia reciente de España. En los últimos tiempos, responden a un interés económico por proyectar una imagen amable de la antigua potencia colonial, sede de importantes empresas multinacionales interesadas en el negocio trasatlántico. La necesidad de recuperar este vínculo entre lo hispano o lo ibero-americano constituye el argumento final de un trabajo enmarcado en la historia y la teoría de la Geografía.es-ES
