The work we present is the result of a historical-educational research that aims to get to know the 1940 curriculum called ‘Bachelor Plan’ in Spain. The first curriculum of the Spanish postwar teaching staff consisted of a brief and accelerated training program that aimed to convert high school graduates into teachers. This research provides new data, completing and clarifying previous publications related to the topic. We analyze the experience in the geographical framework of the Canary Islands. We use the historical-educational methodology analyzing the original documentation that is kept in the background of the teaching in the archive of the University of La Laguna. We perform the analysis of unpublished documents, study of the regulations, the curriculum and a literature review. The consultation of documentary sources of the first order has allowed us to confirm, in the case of the school of teaching of La Laguna that despite the reduction of the level of studies facilitated the majority access of applicants to the qualification of teacher with the baccalaureate. An initial preparation that introduced the modality of free education revalued student learning through this system and subtracted the mission of academic institutions. In principle, the baccalaureate plan was a transitional plan, although it expanded over time, reaching the next decade.El trabajo que presentamos es el resultado de una investigación histórico-educativa que pretende conocer el Plan de estudios de 1940, denominado Plan Bachiller en España. El primer Plan de estudios del magisterio de la posguerra española consistía en un programa de formación breve y acelerado que pretendía la reconversión de bachilleres en maestros y en maestras. En esta investigación se aportan nuevos datos, completando y matizando publicaciones previas relacionadas con el tema. Analizamos la experiencia en el marco geográfico de Canarias, comunidad insular de la periferia española. Empleamos la metodología histórico-educativa analizando la documentación original del fondo de Magisterio que se custodia en el Archivo de la Universidad de La Laguna. Realizamos el estudio de la normativa, del Plan de estudios y acometimos la revisión bibliográfica junto al análisis de documentos inéditos. La consulta de fuentes documentales de primer orden nos ha permitido confirmar, en el caso de la Escuela Normal de La Laguna, que a pesar de la reducción del nivel de estudios, facilitó el acceso mayoritario de aspirantes a la titulación de maestro o maestra con el bachillerato. En la preparación inicial se incluyó la modalidad de enseñanza libre, se revalorizó el aprendizaje del alumnado por este sistema y restó la misión de las instituciones académicas. En principio el Plan Bachiller era un plan transitorio, aunque se dilató en el tiempo llegando a traspasar la década siguiente.
