| dc.description | This article explores some of the causes behind the victory of Guillermo Lasso in the April 2021 Ecuadorian presidential elections. It discusses several alternative scenarios regarding the immediate political future of this Andean country, resulting from the outcome of the vote in the February legislative elections, which took place at the same time as the first round of the presidential contest. Although the results can be interpreted in several different ways, its significance and meaning cannot be reduced to a new chapter of the recurring contest between “pro market neo-liberalism” and “big-government socialism”. Other cleavages and issues may be involved, paving the way for a much more nuanced and complex political arena. Both the nature of the actors involved, and the presumptive cleavages present in deciding voter´s choice may be subject to more detailed and complex scrutiny. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este articulo indaga sobre las causas del triunfo de Guillermo Lasso, en las elecciones Presidenciales de Abril de 2021, en Ecuador, y busca desarrollar algunas conjeturas sobre las perspectivas que se abren para la política de ese país andino, a partir de los resultados de estos comicios, así como de los parlamentarios de Febrero de este año, que renovaron la composición de la Legislatura. Existen varias maneras de interpretar los resultados, pero es posible sostener que el desenlace va mucho más allá, y es mucho más complejo que un mero episodio más en la presunta lucha entre la derecha “neo liberal” y la izquierda socialista. Tanto el carácter de las agrupaciones finalistas, como los clivajes mismos que se hicieron presentes en las dos vueltas de la elección, deben ser sometidos a un escrutinio crítico más profundo. | es-ES |
