| dc.description | This research analyzes the definition of infantile paralysis as an epidemiological problem in the Province of Santiago between 1920 and 1970, through the press, literature in scientific journals, the Ministry of Health Fund and the Statistical Yearbook of the Republic of Chile. Make a historiographic balance of the disease, medical treatments and the rehabilitation stage. On this basis, the development and massification of the vaccine stands out as a means to curb the contagion curve and, finally, to achieve the eradication of this endemic in the country at the beginning of the 20th century. | dc.description | Esta investigación analiza la definición de la parálisis infantil como problema epidemiológico en la Provincia de Santiago entre 1920 y 1970, a través de la prensa, la literatura en revistas científicas, el Fondo Ministerio de Salud y el Anuario Estadístico de la República de Chile. Realiza un balance historiográfico de la enfermedad, los tratamientos médicos y la etapa de rehabilitación. A partir de esta base se destaca el desarrollo y masificación de la vacuna como medio para frenar la curva de contagios y, finalmente lograr la erradicación de esta endemia en el país a inicios del siglo XX. También se examina la circulación de conocimiento médico, lo que propició mejoras en la salud infantil y construyó en la comunidad la práctica de prevención ante la aparición de afecciones.Palabras clave: Poliomielitis, enfermedades infantiles pediatría, rehabilitación física, vacuna, Santiago. | es-ES |
