The military government of Guillermo Rodríguez Lara in Ecuador (1972-1976) and the relationships established within it by the leftwing military and the National Security Doctrine are studied. It isfound that said government was indeed a leftist or progressive experience, specifying, however, that it incorporated postulates of the NSD. At the same time, it is shown that the supporters of the Doctrine, represented by General Víctor Aulestia, participated in the government assuming the language and discourse of the left-wing military. Consequently, it is attempted to prove that the National Security Doctrine had a heterogeneous reception in Ecuador and that it was flexibly adapted to the local scenario.Keywords: Military; Left; National Security; Ecuador; Cold WarSe estudia el gobierno militar de Guillermo Rodríguez Lara en Ecuador (1972-1976) y las relaciones que en su seno establecieron los militares de izquierda y la Doctrina de Seguridad Nacional. Se constata que dicho gobierno fue efectivamente una experiencia de izquierda o progresista, precisando, no obstante, que incorporó postulados de la DSN. Al mismo tiempo se muestra que los partidarios de la Doctrina, representados por el general Víctor Aulestia, participaron en el gobierno asumiendo el lenguaje y el discurso de los militares de izquierda.
