Abstract
Canal novel has not had a significant presence in Latin American literary studies outside of Panama, despite working on common themes with other national literatures in the region. Joaquín Beleño (1922-1988) was recognized as the initiator of this genre with the publication of Luna verde in 1951. We will focus on the interesting treatment that is applied to language in this novel, being able to speak of an authentic oralized novel and reaching to turn the use of language into a parameter for the construction of otherness. In short, Joaquín Beleño's language in Luna verde, like the Canal, which opens and closes, joins the time it separates, contributes to the construction of a problematized, border, heterogeneous identity.
