From protest to party: The performativity of dance and Andean music collectives in post-dictatorial Chile

dc.descriptionThe main objective of this article is to reflect on the performative practices of communities of dancers and musicians calling themselves Andean in the context of social demonstrations in Santiago de Chile after the period of social revolt started on October 18, 2019. Based on photographs, audiovisual records and interviews, this paper presents an analysis of the modes of participation of these groups in two spaces of political and festive enunciation that converge in the city: protests and popular carnivals. The hypothesis is that these groups, through their performances, have installed in both spaces the importance of enjoyment and celebration from a critical political dimension, employing for this purpose sound aesthetics, visual and choreographic of the Bolivian folklore"”mostly"”and forming, over the years, an Andean circuit in the city. This circuit stresses the cultural conformations of the "properly Chilean" to produce dynamic festive spaces that have called to decolonize the city.en-US
dc.descriptionEl objetivo principal de este artí­culo es reflexionar sobre las prácticas performativas de comunidades de danzantes y músicos autodenominados "andinos" en el contexto de movilizaciones sociales en Santiago de Chile tras el periodo de revuelta social iniciado el 18 de octubre de 2019. A partir de fotografí­as, registros audiovisuales y entrevistas, en este trabajo se presenta un análisis sobre los modos de participación de estos colectivos en dos espacios de enunciación polí­tica y festiva que convergen en la ciudad: las protestas y los carnavales populares. La premisa es que estos colectivos, a través de sus performances, han instalado en ambos espacios la importancia del goce y la fiesta desde una dimensión polí­tica crí­tica, empleando con este fin estéticas sonoras, visuales y coreográficas del folclor boliviano –mayoritariamente– y conformando, a lo largo de los años, un circuito andino en la ciudad. Dicho circuito tensiona las conformaciones culturales de lo "propiamente chileno" para producir espacios festivos dinámicos que han convocado a descolonizar la ciudad.es-ES
