The self-organization of housing is understood as a phenomenon studied from the complex systems and approached from the perspective of the generation of housing build by those who doesn´t have the option of improve better conditions to live. This article is developed through the analysis of patterns identified in the texts of different authors understood as a constructive categories and adaptive typologies. To correlate different visions of living and from the phenomenology of the use of space through time and the natural place. The result is a recategorization of these patterns brought to the contemporaneity to understand the role of this type of housing in Latin American cities.La autoorganización de la vivienda se entiende como un fenómeno estudiado desde los sistemas complejos y abordado desde la perspectiva de la generación de vivienda, creada por quienes no tienen las opciones socioeconómicas necesarias para habitar con mejores condiciones de vida. Este artículo se desarrolla a través del análisis de los patrones identificados en los textos de diferentes autores entendidos como categorías constructivas y tipologías adaptativas. Con la finalidad de correlacionar diferentes visiones del habitar y desde la fenomenología del uso del espacio a través del tiempo y del lugar natural. El resultado es una recategorización de estos patrones traídos a la contemporaneidad con la finalidad de entender el papel de este tipo de vivienda en ciudades latinoamericanas.
