The author reviews the life and scientific and bibliographic activity of William Bollaert, English chemist born in Lymington, Hamshire, in 1807. Arrived in Peru in 1825, he settled the following year in the silver ore of Huantajaya, near Iquique, province of Tarapacá (I region), to carry out his tasks there as an assayer of the metals that were exported to England. Not content with this role, he traveled the entire territory of the province, studying geography, geology and mineralogy, as well as anthropological aspects (burials, geoglyphs, Changos Indians), which attracted his attention. His works related to the wars of succession in Spain and Portugal, about Texas, and the excellent drawings of his friend George Smith related to Tarapacá. El autor reseña la vida y actividad científica y bibliográfica de William Bollaert, químico ingles nacido en Lymington, Hamshire, en 1807. Llegado al Perú en 1825, se radicó al año siguiente en el mineral de plata de Huantajaya, junto a Iquique, provincia de Tarapacá (I región), para realizar allí sus tareas como ensayador de los metales que se exportaban a Inglaterra. No contento con ese rol, recorrió todo el territorio de la provincia, estudiando tanto la geografía, geología y mineralogía, como aspectos antropológicos (entierros, geoglifos, indios changos), que llamaron poderosamente su atención. Se reseñan sus obras relativas a las guerras de sucesión en España y Portugal, sobre Texas, y los excelentes dibujos de su amigo George Smith relativos a Tarapacá.
