dc.descriptionWith the present study , we have the honour to initiate in the Revista de Geografía Norte Grande, a Series wich main objective is to recall the founders and early promoters of geographic thoughr in Chile. Because of space constraints, it will not be possible to bring a detailed account on each person tnvolved. However, the intention is to offer the main highlights to allow the rider to place the text content in a historical perspective, without missing the empirical aspect of it. It is hoped the information we provide in this first paper will be of some help to scholars interested in Geography , Moreover, we would feel pleased if in the near future, the Series becomes a sort of stimulation to write a History of Chilean Geography.en-US
dc.descriptionCon el siguiente estudio tenemos el honor de dar inicio en las páginas de Norte Grande a esta Serie, que pretende recordar a los Precursores del pensamiento y el quehacer geográficos en nuestro país. Como no es posible , por razones de espacio, llevar a cabo una detallada monografía sobre cada personaje tratado, nos hemos tenido que constreñir a entregar unos sucintos apuntes biográficos que permitan al lector ubicarlos históricamente, para centramos con cierto detenimiento en su praxis. Esperamos que los datos aqui aportados sean de utilidad a los interesados en esta ciencia,y estimulen a alguna pluma a redactar una Historia de la Geografía de Chile metódica y erudita, rescatando del olvido nombres y documentos con el detenimiento que esto requiere.es-ES
