dc.descriptionThe article deals with the coastal geomorphological characteristics of the coastal sector between the city of Iquique, in northern Chile, and Caleta Molle, south of it. There are geomorphological theories about the formation of the great cliff of the northern coast of the country. J. Brüggen says that it is a long fault line and e Mortimery N. Saric think that the cliff is rather a very extended marine abrasion platform. The coastal morphology of Iquique is the consequence of several factors. Among them, structural features and local tectonics. The erosion of the sea is also very important in the processes of construction of the modeling forms. These factors are discussed here. Finally, it is important to point out that the morphology of this sector of northern Chile develops in an extremely desert climate.  en-US
dc.descriptionEl artículo trata sobre las características geomorfológicas litorales del sector costero comprendido entre la ciudad de lquique, al norte de Chile, y la Caleta Molle, al sur de la misma. Hay teorías  geomorfológicas acerca de la formación del gran acantilado de la costa del norte del país. J. Brüggen dice que se trata de una larga línea de falla y e Mortimery N. Saric piensan que el acantilado es más bien una plataforma de abrasión marina muy extendida. La morfología costera de Iquique es la consecuencia de varios factores. Entre ellos, las características estructurales y la tectónica local. La erosión del mar es también muy importante en los procesos de construcción de las formas del modelado. Aquí se habla de estos factores. Finalmente, es  importante señalar que la morfología de este sector del norte de Chile se desarrolla en un medio de clima extremadamente desértico.es-ES
