The present study analizes the change and the effects produced in several time in the hygrophite cold forest in a sector of the northeastern of the Isla Grande of Chiloé. The current state of the vegetation is characterized in the lower part of the Río Chepu basin, wich corresponds to the biggest basin in the island. Many vegetational fire in the area, the intense exploitation of the forest mostly for the log and wood extraction, and the depression of the lower land due to the seismic activity during may of 1961, have been determined an intense deterioration of the forest that their regeneration is very difiicult. Many exotics and invader species difficult the renewal of typical tree species. The analysis of the satellite images of the three different summer dates (1976, 1987, 2000), allowed to prove the spatial and temporal changes that have been experienced these systems, particulary in the forestry cover.Se analizan los efectos producidos en el bosque pluvial frío de un sector del norte de la Isla Grande de Chiloé. El área de trabajo se concentra en la vegetación correspondiente a las partes bajas de la cuenca inferior del río Chepu y que corresponde a la mayor cuenca hidrográfica de la isla. La mayor parte de la vegetación actual corresponde a un renoval de bosque pluvial tipo chilote y gran parte del área ha sido afectada por incendios y una intensiva explotación para la extracción de madera y leña. Por otra parte los movimientos sísmicos de mayo de 1960 provocaron hundimientos del nivel del suelo en los sectores bajos con inundaciones de terreno, lo cual contribuye a dificultar aun más la regeneración del bosque. La invasión de diversas especies exóticas dificulta también la regeneración de la vegetación original. El análisis de imágenes satelitales de tres diferentes períodos de verano (1976, 1987, 2000) permite conocer los cambios espaciales y temporales que han experimentado estos ecosistemas y particularmente su estructura arbórea.
