The main goal of the present study was, to compare, to evaluate and to validate the records of the behavior in time and space of the  tratocumulus cloud deck obtained from GOES images, with field observations done during July 17 to 26 in 2002. The main results show the similarities among GOES images and real time field records, 92% and 79% for the evening and night respectively. The observations were done from the summit of Cerro Carrasco, 20º 55’ south and 70º 05’ west, 1.596 m.a.s.l.El objetivo de este estudio fue comparar, evaluar y validar los registros de comportamiento espacio-temporal de la nube estratocúmulo obtenidos mediante imágenes GOES, con observaciones realizadas en terreno entre las fechas 17 y 26 de Julio del año 2002 en parte del desierto costero de la I Región de Tarapacá. Entre los principales resultados está la similitud entre imágenes GOES y registro real en terreno, 92% y 79% para la tarde y madrugada respectivamente. Las observaciones fueron realizadas desde la cumbre de Cerro Carrasco, 20º 55’ latitud sur -70º 05’ longitud oeste, 1.596 m.s.n.m.
