| dc.description | This article takes on the issue of the influence of television on the reinforcement of the social mechanisms of exclusion in Chile. An analysis of the genre "news" is carried out, trying to emphasize the content of the messages broadcasted by the medium, as well as the way in which the popular youngsters are presented there. The idea that crosses this work starts from the hypothesis that the television newscasts reinforce the existing social processes of exclusion in our country. This situation occurs because the television language tends to stereotype and, therefore, to provide partial notions regarding those persons and groups that happen to be in a situation of subordination. As a matter of fact, the analysis centers on urban popular youngsters, in order to identify those contents/images to which they appear to be associated in the television scope. Keeping the above in mind throughout the article, an attempt is made to emphasize the importance of equal opportunity as a condition for democracy in our country, a process in which the mass media can make a significant contribution. This project requires to carefully examine the set of mechanisms that avoid the social integration of young people in different areas, as well as the social generation of social policies oriented to regress the above situation. | en-US |
| dc.description | Este artículo aborda el tema de la influencia de la televisión en el reforzamiento de los mecanismos de exclusión social en Chile. Se realiza un análisis del género "noticias" intentando destacar el contenido de los mensajes que dicho medio transmite, así como de la forma en que ahí son presentados, los jóvenes populares. La idea que atraviesa este trabajo parte de la hipótesis que los noticieros de la televisión refuerzan los procesos de exclusión social existentes en nuestro país. Ello, en tanto el lenguaje televisivo tiende a estereotipar y, por lo tanto, a proporcionar nociones parciales respecto de aquellas personas y grupos que se encuentran en una situación de subordinación. Concretamente, el análisis se centra en los jóvenes populares urbanos, en la perspectiva de identificar aquellos contenidos/imágenes a las que ellos aparecen asociados en el género televisivo. Con esto, se busca enfatizar la importancia de la igualdad de oportunidades como condición de la democracia de nuestro país; proceso en el que los medios de comunicación pueden hacer un aporte significativo. Ello requiere examinar con detenimiento el conjunto de mecanismos que están impidiendo la integración social de los jóvenes en distintas áreas, así como la generación de políticas sociales orientadas a revertir dicha situación. | es-ES |
