In the No. 12 issue of 'Perspectives' Magazine, exclusively devoted to the elderly an article related to the formal caretakers of the institutions denominated of "long stay", written by Berruti, Maria Belen & Buzeki, Mariana was published. The present article, rooted in the same topic, adds to the data gathered and displayed in the article aforementioned, both being the product of a research project carried out during the 2001-2003 period. Their main goal aimed at investigating the social representation of the elderly which the formal caretakers may hold in 'long stay' Rest Homes (LSRH), and it also aimed at analyzing their possible relationship with the care exercises carried out in these institutions.En el número 12 de la Revista Perspectivas, enteramente consagrado al tema de la vejez, publicamos un artí­culo relativo a los cuidadores formales de las instituciones denominadas de "larga estadí­a" de las autoras Marí­a Belén Berruti & Mariana Buzeki. El presente artí­culo, enmarcado al interior de la misma temática, complementa los antecedentes recogidos y presentados en el texto referido, siendo ambos el producto de un proyecto de investigación llevado a cabo durante los años 2001-2003 por las autoras. El objetivo del mismo, consistió en investigar la representación social de la vejez que poseen los cuidadores formales en establecimientos de larga estadí­a para ancianos (ELE) y analizar su posible relación con las prácticas de cuidado que se llevan a cabo en estos establecimientos.
