Women diagnosed with breast cancer are exposed to aggressive and violent treatments that attempt against the materiality of the gendered body. The objective of this article is to analyze the experiences and perceptions of women who underwent breast cancer surgery, regarding their sexuality and gender identity. For this purpose, twenty episodic-narrative interviews were conducted in the city of Quito, Ecuador with women diagnosed with breast cancer. It was concluded that sexuality is a highly complex field that is not restricted to specific body fragments; this is significantly affected, not only by mastectomy, but also by the treatments that women undergo and by the relationships they establish and maintain with others. Finally, it was shown that despite the fact that their bodies are transformed by surgical interventions, their gender identity is rooted in the gender roles socially assigned as feminine.Las mujeres con diagnóstico de cáncer de mama se exponen a tratamientos agresivos y violentos que arremeten contra la materialidad del cuerpo generizado. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar las experiencias y percepciones de mujeres intervenidas quirúrgicamente por cáncer de mama, respecto a su sexualidad e identidad de género. Para esto, se realizaron veinte entrevistas episódico-narrativas en la ciudad de Quito, Ecuador a mujeres diagnosticadas con cáncer de seno. Se concluyó que la sexualidad es un ámbito de suma complejidad que no se constriñe a fragmentos corporales específicos; esta se ve significativamente afectada, no solo por la mastectomía, sino también por los tratamientos que las mujeres atraviesan y por las relaciones que establecen y mantienen con los otros. Finalmente, se evidenció que, a pesar de que sus cuerpos se transforman por las intervenciones quirúrgicas, su identidad genérica se enraíza en los roles de género asignados socialmente como femeninos.
