dc.descriptionAfter traffic accidents, suicide is the second cause of death in Chile. During 2020, 1,590 suicides were registered in the country, representing 1.29% of all deaths. 82.7% correspond to men, that is, for every 10 suicides there are 8 men and 2 women. From this basic evidence, we propose a reflection on gender, masculinity and suicide. How does suicide tell us about the masculine condition in our societies? We will analyze the imaginary on these matters in the light of research results, the analysis of poetic texts and the popular songbook. Along the way we will reflect on the theme of male suicide, suggesting a possible relationship of meaning between this behavior and the type of challenge to action (and omission) of the cultural norm of masculinity.en-US
dc.descriptionDespués de los accidentes de tránsito, el suicidio constituye la segunda causa de muerte en Chile. Durante 2020, se registraron 1.590 suicidios en el país, representando un 1,29 % del total de fallecimientos. El 82,7 % corresponde a hombres, esto es, por cada 10 suicidios hay 8 de varones y 2 de mujeres. A partir de esa evidencia de base, proponemos una reflexión sobre género, masculinidad y suicidio. ¿De qué manera el suicidio nos habla sobre la condición masculina en nuestras sociedades? Analizaremos el imaginario sobre estas materias a la luz de resultados de investigación, del análisis de textos poéticos y del cancionero popular. En el camino reflexionaremos la temática del suicidio de varones sugiriendo una posible relación de sentido entre esta conducta y el tipo de interpelación a la acción (y a la omisión) de la norma cultural de la masculinidad.es-ES
