dc.descriptionThe objective of this article is to analyse the current situation of the crime of piracy in the contemporary International Law of the Sea. Firstly, an overview of the history and concept of piracy is conducted. Then, the rules of International Law of the Sea that regulate maritime piracy and its complementary legal figure – the armed robbery against ships – are reviewed, because both are crimes of international significance (crimes under International Law). Finally, the application of the principle of universal jurisdiction that the international community has had to stop piracy in the world seas is also discussed.en-US
dc.descriptionEl presente artículo tiene por objeto realizar un análisis jurídico de la situación actual del delito de piratería en el Derecho Internacional del Mar contemporáneo. Para ello se hará primeramente un examen general de la historia y del concepto de piratería, para luego repasar las normas del Derecho Internacional del Mar que regulan a la piratería marítima y a su principal figura típica complementaria: el robo a mano armada perpetrado contra buques, ya que ambos constituyen delitos de trascendencia internacional. También se examinará la aplicación del principio de jurisdicción universal que ha ejercido la comunidad internacional para poner fin a la piratería en los mares del mundo.es-ES
