Disappearance was a distinctive act of Latin American dictatorships during the 1970s. Through them, the body became a space where political repression was executed. For this reason, the following essay intends to search for the role that the body represents in enforced disappearance and the building of memorials. Likewise, it seeks to understand the connection between body and memorial through the representation, and how this affects in building the memory of a nation. In order to conduct the previous statements, the notion of body will be briefly described. From this, the concepts of memorial and disappearance will be developed. In each of these concepts, the existing connection with the body of the “detained-disappeared” during the Chilean dictatorship will be identified. Finally, this essay concludes that memorials are a device that allows the extension of the meaning behind the body; they are the aesthetic-political resistance to the dictatorship which takes place in our times. It is also concluded that both body and disappearance are related in an exclusive inclusion (Agamben, 1998), where survival of the one and exclusion of the other is disputed between them in order to be fulfilled.La desaparición fue un acto característico de las dictaduras Latinoamericanas durante la década de 1970. En ellas, el cuerpo se transformó en un espacio donde se llevaba a cabo la represión política. Por dicho motivo, el siguiente trabajo busca discutir sobre el rol que tiene el cuerpo ante la desaparición forzada y la edificación de monumentos rememorativos. A su vez, se examina la relación que existe entre monumento y cuerpo a partir de la representación y cómo ésta afecta la construcción de la memoria de un país. Para llevar a cabo dicha tarea, se describirá brevemente la noción de cuerpo. A partir de allí, se desarrollarán los conceptos de monumento y desaparición. En cada uno de ellos se verá la relación que hay con el cuerpo de los detenidos desaparecidos en la dictadura chilena. Finalmente, este trabajo concluye que los monumentos son un dispositivo que permite la prolongación del sentido tras el cuerpo. Son la resistencia estético-política de la dictadura que se lleva a cabo en nuestros días. También se concluye que el cuerpo y la desaparición se relacionan en una inclusión exclusiva (Agamben, 1998), donde disputan su sobrevivencia y la exclusión del otro para realizarse.
