The documents we transcribed were sent by the priest José Alejo Infante, the representative of the Vicar Joaquín Larraín Gandarillas, to the Vatican authorities. These documents cleary reflect the persistence of the ultramontane thought in Chile, and also show the bitter opposition to the previous arrangements made by President Santa María and Monsignor Mario Mocenni for the archbishop succession in Santiago and bishops succession in Concepción and Ancud.Los documentos que transcribimos, enviados por el sacerdote José Alejo Infante en su calidad de representante del vicario capitular Joaquín Larraín Gandarillas a las autoridades vaticanas, son un fiel reflejo de la persistencia del pensamiento ultramontano en Chile y de abierta oposición al arreglo de la vacancia del arzobispado de Santiago y de los obispados de Concepción y de Ancud, que llevaba a cabo el presidente Santa María con la mediación del Subsecretario de Estado del Vaticano, monseñor Mario Mocenni.
