dc.description	The article is an exploratory reflection on the genesis of Chilean national exhibitions held between 1848 and 1872. In its origins, the role played by the Generation of 1842 at the head of Salvador Sanfuentes was crucial, while other intellectuals, such as Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna, were important in its development, promoting and supporting these events as a reflection of the degree of civilization reached by the country.	en-US

En sus orígenes fue crucial el rol que tuvo la Generación de 1842 encabezada por Salvador Sanfuentes, mientras que en su desarrollo fueron importantes otros intelectuales –tal como Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna– que impulsaron y apoyaron estos eventos en tanto reflejo del grado de civilización alcanzado por el país.	es-ES
