This article reflects on the literary experience within the institution of “carabineros” by two chilean authors, Armando Méndez Carrasco and Luis Rivano. For this, it is proposed to analyze the literary biography and the work of both under the concept of eccentricity, understood as a category that accounts for the ambivalent position in their activity as “carabineros” and writers (“pacos” and novelists) as well as the oscillating social situation that they embody the leading characters of their novels, which move towards the margin but from a vision of the middle class. In this sense, the literary style of the authors is interpreted firstly from the context of the cultural and social field that we circumscribe at the time of 1955 and 1973 and, secondly, from their novels that relate the "carabineristic" experiencesEste artículo reflexiona en torno a la experiencia literaria al interior de la institución de carabineros por parte de dos autores chilenos, Armando Méndez Carrasco y Luis Rivano. Para ello se propone analizar la biografía literaria y la obra de ambos bajo el concepto de excentricidad, entendido este como una categoría que da cuenta de la posición ambivalente en su actividad como carabineros y escritores (“pacos” y novelistas) así como la situación social oscilante que encarnan los personajes protagónicos de sus novelas, los cuales transitan hacia el margen pero desde una visión propia de la clase media. En este sentido, el estilo literario de los autores es interpretado en primer lugar desde el contexto del campo cultural y social que circunscribimos a la época de 1955 y 1973 y, en segundo lugar, a partir de sus novelas que relatan las vivencias “carabinerísticas”
