dc.descriptionThe establishment by Schade of the first course of Urbanism at the School of Architecture of the University of Chile in 1928, whose program is unknown, motivated this approach to its possible contents and emphasis. The objective of this study is to support the current assumption about the contents of Schade’s course, as well as to support an extension of the hypothesis about them. It is argued that the formation of Schade in Chile in the first decade of the 20th century, added to the contributions of the Chilean pre-urbanists, would have allowed him to insert himself positively in the European environment between 1911 and 1914, realizing an improvement in architecture and the science of construction, and participating in the intellectual effervescence generated after the recent creation of the term “Urbanism” in England (1910), the «French Society of Urbanist Architects» (1911), and the first “Urbanism Course” in Vienna (1911) . To this experience, upon his return to Chile, progress was made in terms of urban legislation, the initiative to carry out an improvement in Urbanism teaching at the Postgraduate level, and the contributions to knowledge about infrastructures for hygiene in architecture and cities. Things that triggered the will of Schade to establish a course on Urban Planning at the Undergraduate level at the University of Chile. This research starts seeking the background in the formation of Schade in Chile, in the movement for the modernization of education in the country, and in the contributions of pre-urbanists, all of which would have influenced their interest Initial in urban problems; then the research is focused in the Parisian context of his stay in Europe, when, in addition, he met some of the most developed European cities, and certain social movements, and novel approaches for the benefit of urban quality of life. Finally, we tried to place Schade in the Chilean reality between 1914, when he returned to the country, and 1931, when he finished his teaching work. It concludes about the opportunity of the creation of the Schade course in 1928, and about the diversity of contents and emphasis that his teaching in Urban Planning may have had, beyond the background disseminated so far.en-US
dc.descriptionLa instauración por Schade del primer curso de «Urbanismo» en la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Chile en 1928, cuyo programa se desconoce, motiva la aproximación de siguiente trabajo sobre sus posibles contenidos y énfasis. Son objetivos del estudio, desplegar tanto el respaldo del supuesto actual sobre los contenidos del curso, como de una ampliación de la hipótesis sobre ellos. Se sostiene que la formación de Schade en Chile en la primera década del siglo XX, sumada a los aportes de los pre-urbanistas nacionales, le habría permitido insertarse positivamente en el ambiente europeo entre 1911 y 1914, realizando un perfeccionamiento en arquitectura y ciencias de la construcción, y participando de la efervescencia intelectual generada luego de la creación reciente del término «Urbanismo» en Inglaterra (1910), la «Sociedad Francesa de Arquitectos Urbanistas» (1911), y el primer «Curso de Urbanismo» en Viena (1911). A esta experiencia, se sumaron, a su regreso a Chile, avances en materia de legislación urbana, la iniciativa para realizar un perfeccionamiento en Urbanismo en nivel de Posgrado, y los aportes al conocimiento sobre infraestructuras para el saneamiento de las viviendas y de las ciudades, todo lo que habría detonado la voluntad de Schade para instaurar un curso de Urbanismo en nivel de Pregrado en la Universidad de Chile. Se indaga, primero, en sentido retrospectivo, con antecedentes en la formación de Schade en Chile, en el movimiento en pro de la modernización de la enseñanza en el país, y en los aportes de los pre-urbanistas, todo lo cual habría incidido en su interés inicial en los problemas urbanos. Luego se centra igual búsqueda en el contexto parisino de su estadía en Europa, cuando, además, conoció algunas de las ciudades europeas más desarrolladas, y ciertos movimientos sociales, y planteamientos novedosos en beneficio de la calidad de vida urbana. Finalmente, se sitúa el trabajo de Schade en la realidad chilena entre 1914, cuando regresa al país, y 1931, cuando termina su labor docente. Se concluye sobre la oportunidad de la creación del curso de Schade en 1928, y sobre la diversidad de contenidos y énfasis que pudo haber tenido su docencia en Urbanismo, más allá de los antecedentes difundidos hasta la actualidad.es-ES
