This research studies the return associated to the decision of private investment of studying careers offered by different Technical Training Centers (CFT) of Chile, subject scarcely investigated. CFT are an alternative of increasing demand for their lower cost and duration, as well as for their greater orientation to the labor market. However, public policies generate discrimination towards this option, although they have more vulnerable students than the Professional Institutes and Universities. The results indicate that the notion of a positive return associated to the decision of private investment in tertiary education of all kinds is only a partial reality, since there is a high heterogeneity in the return of studying a technical career depending on the career and the institution where it is studied and almost 25\% of the programs analyzed presents a negative return, where even in some careers no CFT achieves a positive return. The results are sensitive to the discount rate used and the comparison group of workers. On the other hand, in some low-return careers and with a majority of female enrollment, if we use only women's income as a comparison, the return increases, reflecting the gender bias in the analysis of technical education in Chile.Esta investigación estudia la rentabilidad asociada a la decisión de inversión privada en cursar carreras provistas por diferentes Centros de Formación Técnica (CFT) a lo largo de Chile, tema escasamente investigado. Los CFT son una alternativa de creciente demanda por su menor costo y duración, como por su mayor orientación al mercado del trabajo. Sin embargo, las políticas públicas generan una discriminación hacia esta opción, a pesar que cuentan con estudiantes más vulnerables que los Institutos Profesionales y Universidades. Los resultados indican que la noción de una rentabilidad positiva asociada a la decisión de inversión privada en educación terciaria de todo tipo es solo una realidad parcial, puesto que se observa una alta heterogeneidad en la rentabilidad de estudiar una carrera técnica según la carrera y la institución donde ésta se curse, y se estima un retorno negativo en casi el 25\% de los programas analizados, donde incluso en algunas carreras ningún CFT logra una rentabilidad positiva. Los resultados son sensibles a la tasa de descuento utilizada y al grupo de comparación de trabajadores. Por otra parte, en algunas carreras de baja rentabilidad, generalmente con una mayoría de matrícula femenina, si se utiliza como comparación solo los ingresos de las trabajadoras mujeres la rentabilidad se incrementa, reflejando el sesgo de género para analizar la educación técnica en Chile.
