dc.descriptionIn this research, I seek to understand the role that the forest and agricultural business have played in the politicization and rural violence unleashed in the Araucanía between 2013 and 2016. I aim to close a gap in the research about the “Mapuche conflict”, which has been understood primarily from the perspective of the Chilean state or the Mapuche people, by analysing landowners and forest companies’ role in the conflict. I claim that the repertoire of associative practices and collective actions carried out by business associations and investors represent ways of politicization distinctive of social movements such as the demonstrations organized by truck drivers or organizations such as “Peace for the Araucanía”. I argue that the active role of union associations adds new characteristics to the phenomenon of rural violence within the unfinished Mapuche conflict since the Luchsinger-Mackay case.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo plantea comprender el papel que han jugado las asociaciones gremiales ligadas al rubro agrícola y forestal en los fenómenos de politización y violencia rural desatados en la Región de la Araucanía entre los años 2013 y 2016. En específico, buscamos llenar un vacío existente en los estudios referentes al llamado “conflicto mapuche”, el cual se ha abordado desde el Estado o desde el mundo mapuche, faltando abarcar el rol que han tenido los propietarios agrícolas y forestales de aquellas propiedades envueltas en el conflicto. De acuerdo con nuestra perspectiva, podemos señalar como hipótesis que el conjunto de prácticas asociativas y el despliegue de un repertorio de acción colectiva por parte de las asociaciones gremiales representan formas de politización propias de los movimientos sociales. Lo anterior expresado en protestas, interpelación al Estado, acciones como la marcha de camioneros hacia La Moneda y la promoción de organizaciones como Paz en la Araucanía en la sociedad civil, entre otras. Este rol activo de las asociaciones gremiales, a partir de la muerte del matrimonio Luchsinger-Mackay, incorpora nuevas características al fenómeno de violencia rural que afecta la Araucanía, en un conflicto que se mantiene abierto.es-ES
