dc.descriptionThis paper explores the everyday experience of time within the frame of captivity. Through a series of photographs jointly produced by the incarcerated men at Rapa Nui’s carceral facility -the so-called happiest prison in the world- and me, I describe how the quotidian constraints of a captured present are themselves eventful and how this can critically compromise one’s continuity in time. From the reflections of the imprisoned persons on the link between photographs and the narration of time, the photo essay argues that the photographs, as bodies beyond images, can act as perspectival hinges in which an encounter may occur, making the narration of time an affective possibility where experience can be held in common. Finally, it concludes by highlighting how time, just as it can be managed, bent, and distorted, can also go completely out of control, compromising the present in unforeseeable and sometimes devastating ways that bring forth the centrality of the unevenness of time in an unequal world.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo explora la experiencia cotidiana del tiempo en el marco de la cautividad. Mediante una serie de fotografías conjuntamente producidas entre los hombres encarcelados en el Complejo Penitenciario de Isla de Pascua -la así llamada cárcel más feliz del mundo- y yo, acá describo cómo los constreñimientos cotidianos de un presente capturado son en sí mismo un evento, y cómo estos pueden comprometer críticamente la propia continuidad en el tiempo. A partir de las reflexiones de las personas privadas de libertad sobre el vínculo entre las fotografías y la narración del tiempo, este foto-ensayo afirma que las fotografías, como cuerpos más allá de las imágenes, pueden obrar como bisagras de perspectivas en las que un encuentro puede ocurrir, haciendo de la narración del tiempo una posibilidad afectiva donde la experiencia puede ser puesta en común. Finalmente, concluye destacando cómo es que el tiempo, así como puede ser manejado, torcido y distorsionado, también puede salirse completamente de control, comprometiendo el presente de formas impredecibles y a veces también devastadoras, poniendo de manifiesto la centralidad de la irregularidad del tiempo en un mundo desigual.es-ES
