dc.descriptionIn the geographical literature refered to intraurban ecology, the concept of "latent dimensions" as the spatial structure basis of large cities is widely known. A number of studies have been able to establish that the social economic status as well as the family and ethnical status are the main factors which account for social-spatial differences in the population pattem within those cities. In this research which has analysed the social spatial changes in the greater Santiago area at a censusdistrict level, for the intercensus period of 22 years from 1970 until 1992, has provided valuable information of the processes underlying these differences.The results show that there has been an intensification of the intraurban social space, wich has resulted in the conformation of a highly segregated and non socialy and sustenaible city. This situation does not differ from the socioecological pattems identified for latinamerican metropolitan cities.en-US
dc.descriptionEn la literatura geográfica, relativa a ecologia social intraurbana, son reconocidas las "dimensiones latentes que estructuran el espacio de las grandes ciudades. En efecto, numerosos estudios han llegado a establecer que el status socioeconómico, el familiar y el étnico, son los factores que dan cuenta de las diferencias socioespaciales de la población al interior de las urbes. En el presenteestudio efectuado a un nivel de resolucion distrital, se analizan los cambios socio-espaciales ocurridos en el Gran Santiago, en un período de 22 años, que va del censo de población de 1970 al del año 1992. Los resultados muestran una profundización del espacio social intraurbano, proceso que ha conducido a la conformación de una ciudad fuertemente segregada, no sostenible socialmente yque en nada difiere de los patrones socioecológicos identificados en ciudades de carácter metropolitano de Latinoamerica.es-ES
