| dc.description | Despite the centrality of energy in current civilizational conditions, the way in which spatial processes feedback from energy systems and influence their capacity for transformation has not been a focal point for geographic analyzes. The ability of the human being to appropriate more and more energy is in its nature, conditioning spatial dynamics, metabolic processes, and power relations. If the exploitation of biological resources in the immediate territory had been the predominant form of pre-capitalist societies, fossil fuels have enabled great social changes towards the formation of a more complex and energivorous (voracious of energy) proteiform network. This continuous increase in energy consumption, more than a physical process, is a social, political, economic, and cultural indicator. For this reason, we consider it valuable to include the energy dimension in geographic studies, especially in a context of strong questioning of the prevailing development model. Starting from identifying three main historical periods: thepre-capitalist era, the industrial capitalism of the 19th century, and the financial capitalism of the 20th century, this work aims to explore how the reconfiguration of socio-spatial patterns has been traversed by energy in its different shapes and dimensions, and vice versa. Ultimately, it seeks to deconstruct the concept of energy and reveal theinterests and ideological bias that it carries, with the aim of answering what is the role of energy in geographical theory? | dc.description | Pese a la centralidad que tiene la energía en las condiciones civilizatorias actuales, la forma en que los procesos espaciales se retroalimentan de los sistemas energéticos e influyen en su capacidad de transformación no ha sido un punto focal para los análisis geográficos. La capacidad del ser humano de apropiarse de cada vez más energía está en su naturaleza, condicionando las dinámicas espaciales, los procesos metabólicos y las relaciones de poder. Si la explotación de recursos biológicos en el territorio más inmediato ha sido la forma predominante de las sociedades precapitalistas, las energías fósiles habilitarían grandes cambios sociales hacia la conformación de una red proteiforme más compleja y energívora (voraz de energía). Este incremento continuo del consumo de energía, más que un proceso físico, es un indicador social, político, económico y cultural. Por ello, consideramos valioso incluir la dimensión energética en los estudios geográficos, sobre todo en un contexto de fuerte cuestionamiento al modelo de desarrollo imperante. A partir de identificar tres grandes períodos históricos: la era precapitalista, el capitalismo industrial del siglo XIX, y el capitalismo financiero del siglo XX, este trabajo se propone explorar cómo la reconfiguración de los patrones socio-espaciales ha estado atravesada por la energía en sus diferentes formas y dimensiones, y viceversa. En última instancia, busca deconstruir el concepto de energía y revelar los intereses y el sesgo ideológico que carga, con el objetivo de responder ¿cuál es el rol de la energía en la teoría geográfica? ¿Qué relación tiene la energía fósil con el capitalismo? | es-ES |
