| dc.description | The current era is characterized by the increasing role of non governmental organizations (NGOs). In order to deal with the scenario in which States and inter-governmental organizations have traditionally carried out their activities, NGOs have a wealth of resources, among which a recognized reputation of moral integrity, incorruptibility and altruism. This paper examines the emergence of a type of NGO that interacts both within the civil society as well as beyond a country's borders, a paradigmatic case of which is the Corporation for assisting children who have suffered accidents involving burns (Coaniquem). Considering States' limited capacity to meet specific needs, in this case those of children who have suffered this type of accidents in the región, the article attempts to explain the impact of Coaniquem's growth and expansion beyond national borders and its multiplier effect for the achievement of its particular aims across Latin America. | en-US |
| dc.description | La era actual se caracteriza por el creciente papel de las organizaciones no gubernamentales (ONG) en el concierto internacional. Para enfrentar el escenario en que tradicionalmente se desplegaron Estados y organizaciones intergubernamentales, las ONG disponen de un conjunto de recursos, entre los que se destacan la reputación de integridad moral, incorruptibilidad e idealismo altruista. Este trabajo explora la emergencia de un tipo ONG que interactúa tanto dentro de la sociedad civil como fuera de las fronteras de un país, uno de cuyos casos paradigmáticos es la Corporación de Ayuda al Niño Quemado (Coaniquem). A partir de la limitada capacidad de los Estados de resolver necesidades específicas, en este caso la de los niños quemados, se intenta explicar el impacto del crecimiento y expansión de Coaniquem más allá de las fronteras nacionales y su efecto multiplicador para lograr sus objetivos en América Latina. | es-ES |
