This article does not attempt to answer whether there is a greater biological propensity of men to violence or whether the differences between the sexes are a cultural and modifiable issue. Conceiving peace as a broader concept, which requires greater equality and tends to seek a solution to all possible conflicts, this article reviews the reality of conflicts and the way in which they affect men and women in different ways, as well as the different roles they play. This examination highlights the differences that occur in conflicts and the need to deal with them bearing in mind these realities, and ends up raising a possibility of moving forward while reaching the goal set by the United Nations, which is the perspective used for the review, and that it consists of incorporating the gender perspective in everything related to peace operations.Este artículo no pretende responder si existe mayor propensión biológica de los hombres a la violencia o si las diferencias entre los sexos son una cuestión cultural y modificable. Concibiendo la paz como un concepto más amplio, que requiere mayor igualdad y tiende a buscar solución a todos los conflictos posibles, el presente artículo revisa la realidad de los conflictos y la forma en que ellos afectan de diversa manera a hombres y mujeres, así como los distintos roles que desempeñan. Este examen pone de manifiesto las diferencias que se producen en los conflictos y la necesidad de tratarlo teniendo presentes estas realidades, y termina planteando una posibilidad de avanzar mientras se alcanza la meta planteada por las Naciones Unidas, que es la perspectiva utilizada para la revisión, y que consiste en incorporar la perspectiva de género en todo lo que diga relación con las operaciones de paz.
