This essay details the problems and perspectives in the coordination of economic policies in the European Union given the complexity and uncertainties of the current integration process. The first stages of integration are described and the content and problems of political-economic application of the Stability and Growth Pact that underlie not only the achievement of the Economic and Monetary Union, but also its future permanence, are analyzed. The political-economic pact supposes the endorsement of entry into the EMU but, also, the commitment of coordination of the current members of the EU and the demands for new partners. However, the degree of (non) compliance with the Pact is significant as it illustrates not only the difficulties of harmonization and coordination of economic policies but also the internal correlation of strength and power of influence of the different members of the EU. Finally, the cases of Germany and France are studied.El presente ensayo detalla los problemas y perspectivas en la coordinación de las políticas económicas en la Unión Europea ante la complejidad e incertidumbres del actual proceso de integración. Se describen las primeras etapas de integración y se analiza el contenido y problemas de aplicación político económica del Pacto de Estabilidad y Crecimiento que subyace no solo en la consecución de la Unión Económica y Monetaria, sino en su permanencia futura. El pacto político-económico supone el aval de entrada en la UME pero, también, el compromiso de coordinación de los actuales miembros de la UE y las exigencias para nuevos socios. No obstante, el grado de (in)cumplimiento del Pacto es significativo pues ilustra no solo las dificultades de armonización y coordinación de políticas económicas sino la correlación interna de fuerza y poder de influencia de los distintos miembros de la UE. Finalmente, se estudian los casos de Alemania y Francia.
